Welcome to the second installment of our Flapper Press podcast, THE BINGE, our original monthly series reviewing some of the most binge-worthy series spanning the various streaming platforms begging for your attention. Which are the best, and which are the duds? Let us be your guides!
This month, Elizabeth Gracen and Derek May discuss two very different comedies available on Amazon Prime: Schitt's Creek and Fleabag.
Schitt's Creek tells the story of the once filthy-rich
Rose family who suddenly find themselves broke
with nothing left but their only remaining asset—Schitt's Creek, a small town they once bought as a joke. Forced to abandon their pampered existence to share adjoining rooms in a Schitt's Creek roadside motel, Johnny, Moira, and their two adult children, David and Alexis, are forced to rebuild their lives and learn to appreciate the simple life in this rural community of colorful characters.
Starring Eugene Levy, Catherine O'Hara, Daniel Levy, and Annie Murphy, Schitt's Creek is a Canadian production created by Daniel Levy and Eugene Levy with five seasons available on Amazon Prime. The sixth and final season will air in January 2020.
Funny, touching, and well worth a binge-watch, Schitt's Creek starts out as a fish-out-of-water scenario and quickly dives deep into character development as the series progresses, with outstanding comedic performances by Catherine O'Hara and a cast of top-notch performers.
Fleabag is the award-wining British comedy/drama series on Amazon Prime created and written by Phoebe Waller-Bridge, who also stars as the eponymous Fleabag. The series is adapted from Waller-Bridge's one-woman stage show of the same name and tells the story of a troubled young woman's exploits in modern-day London as she wrestles with her demons and comes to terms with her past trauma.
This multi-award-winning, two-season series blends ferocious wit
with a unique storytelling style that frequently employs breaking
the fourth wall to reveal the heartbreaking journey of a
complicated woman—a fully realized female character that is
worthy of Phoebe Waller-Bridge's many accolades.
