Flapper Press is proud to announce our nominees for the 2025 Pushcart Prize in Writing and Poetry. We congratulate our nominees and all of our contributors for their outstanding work this past year. As we continue to share work from writers, poets, and artists from around the globe, we believe that their work exemplifies the many creative, informative, and eclectic voices that we are lucky enough to feature each week here at Flapper Press.

2025 Pushcart Nominees in Writing:
Isaac Aju:

Isaac Aju is a Nigerian writer and poet deeply interested in history and the need to engage with history. He's been published by Flapper Press, Poetry X Hunger, Steel Jackdaw Magazine, The Kalahari Review, Synchronized Chaos Magazine, and he's also forthcoming in Asemana Magazine (Canada). He lives in Nigeria, where he works as a fashion designer. He writes poetry, stories, and essays because he feels most alive when he is writing.
Azure Brandi:

Azure Brandi lives in Brooklyn, NY. She graduated from New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts, where she studied Drama and Creative Writing. While at NYU, she studied under writers such as Zadie Smith and Nathan Englander. Her work (essays, poetry, fiction, nonfiction) can be found across many media publications and platforms: "Style" (New Croton Review); “You Can Deny” (October Hill Magazine), “Persona as Art” (Virgo Venus Press), “Magnet Self” (SORTES Mag), “On Beauty” (Afterimages by Thirty West Publishing House).

Lorraine Caputo

Wandering troubadour Lorraine Caputo is a documentary poet, translator, and travel writer. Her works appear internationally in over 500 journals and 24 collections of poetry, including In the Jaguar Valley (dancing girl press, 2023). She also authors travel narratives, articles, and guidebooks. She is a Parliamentary Poet Laureate of Canada honoree (2011) and four-time Best of the Net and Pushcart Prize nominee. Caputo has done literary readings from Alaska to Patagonia. She journeys through Latin America with her faithful knapsack, Rocinante, listening to the voices of the pueblos and Earth.

Chris Biles

Chris Biles (she/her) currently lives and works in Washington, DC, where she enjoys playing with the light and the dark and losing herself in music, anything outside, and some words here and there. She is published in a number of literary magazines, journals, and anthologies in print and online. Rick Christiansen

Rick Christiansen is a poet who lives and writes in the American Midwest. His poetry has appeared in North American Review, MacQueen’s Quinterly, Sheila-Na-Gig, and Stone Poetry Quarterly, among others. He is the author of two full-length poetry collections, Bone Fragments and Not a Hero, both published by Spartan Press. He lives with his wife, Kim, and their dog, B.
Michael Lee Johnson

Michael Lee Johnson is a poet of high acclaim, with his work published in 46 countries/republics. He is also a song lyricist with several published poetry books. His talent has been recognized with 7 Pushcart Prize nominations and 7 Best of the Net nominations. He has over 653 published poems. His 336-plus YouTube poetry videos are a testament to his skill and dedication. He is a proud member of the Illinois State Poetry Society and of the Academy of American Poets. His poems have been translated into several languages. Awards/Contests include: International Award of Excellence "Citta' Del Galateo-Antonio De Ferrariis" XI Edition 2024 Milan, Italy-Poetry.
