2026 Flapper Press Valentine Prose Poetry Contest

By Flapper Press Poetry Café:

ree

In the spirit of the very first Valentine Poetry Contest announced by Flapper Press in 2021, our latest contest returns to the concept of Letters to Juliet.

This year, our call is for Prose Poetry that tells stories of love—new love, heartbreak, or the lessons learned from love lost. The poem does not have to be in “letter” form but should be addressed to the object of that love, whether human, animal, location, profession, etc. . . . whatever you choose!

What is a Prose Poem?

A prose composition that, while not broken into verse lines, demonstrates other traits such as symbols, metaphors, and other figures of speech common to poetry. See Amy Lowell’s Bath,” "Metal Metal" by Russell Edson, “Information” by David Ignatow, and Harryette Mullen’s “[Kills bugs dead.]”

2026 Valentine Prose Poetry Contest:

There is no entry fee to submit to this contest.

We will announce FIVE selections to feature in a Flapper Press article for Valentine's Day.

Each of the five selected poets will be awarded $25.

Deadline: February 1, 2026

Contest Guidelines:

  1. Submit your prose poem (up to 500 words) as per the above description.

We are looking for unpublished poetry. All contest-winning poems will be published online on this website, and the poems will remain online indefinitely. All submitted poetry will be read and considered, but we are unlikely to select our winners from submissions that resemble formal poetry formatted into lines and stanzas.

  2. Submit your poem by email to: info@flapperpress.com

Submit as many prose poems as you wish, but each poem should be sent in a separate email with the following information in the subject line:

*Your name - Title of your poem - 2026 Poetry Contest - Date*

  3. Your submission may be pasted into the actual email or sent as a PDF attachment.

  4. Each submission should include a brief bio and poet’s photo.

All submissions will be considered for Flapper Press nominations to the annual

Best of the Net and Pushcart Prize competitions.

We look forward to reading your poetry of love!
