Yesterday, I felt the shift. I woke up grouchy, but a little after noon, I wandered the canyons behind the new house that Angel and I finally moved in to this year. These canyons are home to bobcats, wild peacocks, coyotes, lizards, and other four-legged, winged, and reptilian wonders. These canyons are also home to a tapestry of power lines. I found myself pummeled by a strange, strong wind that blasted across these mountains. It was exhilarating and also a little scary.
I stood on a ridge between mountains, power towers behind me, North wind ahead of me. I spread out my arms like a willing eagle and let that great wind bathe me. It almost knocked me over; it certainly pushed me back. I spread my legs, I ground down into the Earth—I prepared better to receive the blessing. A wind bath. A wind blessing. More than a wind kiss, a full-on wind cuddle.
There is so much we need to heal from, so much that needs to be cleansed. These past four years have been an onslaught of anxiety, a ravaging four years on my nervous system—how about you? While one wind bath may not reverse the wear and tear of trying times, it certainly promotes a path of restoration. The air now is electric with change, possibility, and also the potential for mass anxiety. We must remember our bodies, our hearts, our hands, and our feet as we walk the live wire of change.
