Witch Queen Reverie
I walk on the moonshine isle,
early night-blooming Devil's Trumpet
knotting the air with hope.
My bare feet wet with dew,
grass grasping at my ankles.
Sara moves through me like dusk fog.
Her scent of burning thyme trapped in my breath.
Sara sketches signs of magic in the air.
Her voice pulls at the deep roots,
leaving raw dirt behind.
I hear her whispering warnings, twining
like nightshade through my thoughts.
Heavy as the time I watched her leave,
in this lover’s midnight air,
the old bruise throbs.
The hurt, like a pebble in my boot,
dull aches with each step.
Yet I stand on the grass of sacred ground.
She speaks from the shadows.
Cold hands press the warmth from our hearts.
I find Sara waiting there and hear her cry out,
“I am witch, I am queen.”
