If you've read over the first two parts of this blog series, Feeling Safe in a Shaky World—Part 1 & Part 2, you're now ready to think about what else you might want to consider for emergency planning. While these suggestions may seem over-the-top to some, it's always good to learn about additional steps you can take to make yourself feel safe.
Regardless of how thorough you choose to be when storing your personal provisions, remember to check and restock your supplies AT LEAST EVERY 6 MONTHS.
Your supplies can be stored in plastic tubs or trashcans in a safe, accessible area.
Store the Portable Emergency Kit with your supplies or have several empty backpacks or duffel bags near your supplies in case you need to evacuate.
It is recommended that you stock enough supplies to sustain you and your household members for at least 72 hours.
Label all bags and special equipment (wheelchairs, walkers, etc.) with personal
identification stickers.
Maintain a fully stocked First Aid Kit with your Emergency Supplies.
(See First-Aid Kit Section for complete list of supplies and information).
We've covered the basics of emergency planning and disaster preparedness for your home and family. Now, it's time to discuss travel and your automobile in our next post:
